Goal: Drive a golf cart from Chicago IL, to Minneapolis, MN across Wisconsin to raise money for Dr. Patch Adams. Yes, as in the movie “Patch Adams” July 2, 3, 4, & 5th, 2010.
Dr. Patch Adams has provided medical attention to thousands around the world free of charge for almost 40 years. Our goal is to help raise money for the continued success of this non-insurance based free clinic, and to help continued free medical attention to children both here in the USA and around the world. Your donation will directly affect the patients and the families of those struggling for proper health care without requiring payment from either patients or insurance companies.
"Drive for Life" has its newest member. Baby Gavin and his soon to be new heart.
With the cost of a transplant often exceeding $500,000, many transplant patients are unable to shoulder the financial burden of such a procedure. Caddyswag will be driving a golf cart from Chicago to Minneapolis to help raise money for Gavin. Many Eden Prairie/Minnetonka, volunteers are raising funds for transplant patients like local baby Gavin Motzko.

Born on June 9, 2009, Gavin was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy, and doctors at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota recommended a life-saving heart transplant. An estimated $100,000 is being raised by Eden Prairie & Minnetonka volunteers.
Gavin's Story:
Gavin Motzko (son of Shannon Motzko and Sara (Mages) Motzko) was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy in December 2009 at just six months of age. Dilated Cardiomyopahty is a very serious and very rare heart condition. As a matter of fact, only six out of every one million children are diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy. There is no cure for this disease.
Gavin was taken to Mayo Clinic in Rochester in January 2010 for a transplant evaluation. His surgeon and cardiologist advised that without a heart transplant, he will not make it to his 5th birthday and there is no way to predict how long his heart will last. Gavin needs a heart transplant. In February 2010 Gavin was listed for a heart transplant and is currently waiting for a heart to become available. His surgeon gave an estimated wait time of approximately two months.
Once a heart donor is found, Gavin will have his heart transplant surgery in Rochester. If all goes well, he will need to stay in the hospital for three weeks post surgery. After he is released from the hospital he will need to stay in Rochester for an additional three months for follow-up care to ensure his body does not reject the new heart.
For those of you who don't know Gavin, he is a very happy little boy. His interests include getting outside for long strolls with his mom and dad, sledding, camping, going to Twins baseball games, watching Twins baseball and Vikings football on television, experimenting with new and interesting foods and just having fun.
